Can male divers hurt themselves "there" while diving?

While I was watching the world championships, the one commentator quite regularly commented that it must have hurt in the way the diver entered the water. Usually this comment was coupled with a comment about the diver almost losing his costume. So is it likely that male divers can hurt their package while doing high board dives?

Haven’t you ever done that? After you do "hit yourself" a few times, you become very conscious about the hydrodynamics of the splash and wall of climbing water being concentrated in the groin and adapt accordingly.

Even for a head first dive, notice how the professionals tend to error so that their back takes more of the force than the front.

It could happen if you hit the water wrong.

My best friend’s ex-boyfriend is on the school swim team and does some diving and stuff. I had also heard about this kind of thing happening, so I asked him once if he ever hurt his balls diving into the pool and he said it never happened to him. But my friend says his package is pretty small so maybe it is only dudes with big balls who have this happen.

It all depends how you hit the water. If you mess up a dive you can take the full force to your… boys… but if you can move accordingly, you can relocate the injury.
