Are Panerai watches still issued to sailors in the Italian navy? They're so expensive its too hard believe.?

Weren't they founded, and soon after issued watches to the Italian navy? Now they're such a high-end brand is that still the case? It would be hard to believe. Also, when did they stop issuing them? It might have been not general issue but only for special forces type sailors or elite divers. If still true and I was Italian, I'd enlist just for the watch.

    Not anymore. According to Wikipedia, they ceased to be suppliers of Marina Militare since 1993, as their watches didn’t fulfill military specs anymore.
